It was a beautiful day, crisp and clear, the perfect weather for a leisurely walk through the forest. The autumn leaves were stunning too, Blossom thought as she walked beneath them, craning her neck to get a better look at this display in deep red, gold and orange, lovelier than any painting could ever be. All the same, she should take her sketchbook out and —

Her Deerling nudged at her hand and the ranger looked down, suddenly recalling that she'd let her whole team roam freely to enjoy the season and a certain Hoppip was prone to mischief. As she looked around, her fears were confirmed: Darjeeling was at her side as always while her Turtwig was only a few paces ahead, her Petilil and Cottonee were playing in a pile of leaves just off to the side, and her Budew was of course comfortably nestled in her purse. Her Hoppip was the only one unaccounted for.

"Mer —" she started, then broke off and gave her baby Pokémon an awkward smile. "Alright, I'll carry Cèdre and the rest of you stick close to Darjeeling. That includes you, mon bébé, unless you fancy being jostled while I chase after our troublemaker." Picking the Turtwig up, she waited only for the three other Pokémon to move close to the Deerling before breaking out into a run.

Fortunately, it turned out that her little devil hadn't been carried off very far at all, as she found Cyprès floating in the breeze just after a bend in the trail. Unfortunately, the Hoppip seemed to have taken a shine to a complete stranger.

"Oh, je suis désolée —" Realizing she'd slipped back into her mother tongue flustered Blossom even more and she flinched visibly, rendered speechless for a moment. "Sorry, I mean, I am very sorry — I got distracted — didn't mean to inconvenience you, ma'am…" She was tripping over her words, blushing furiously too, and so in the end her focus shifted to the cause of this embarrassment: "Cyprès, reviens ici tout de suite! Allez!"

Though the effects of the war were still looming in her mind, there were certain things and activities that trauma could not wash away. If anything, walking through the treebend and harvesting mushrooms eased those paranoid thoughts- and even though she was indulging, that was not the reason she had strayed this far from the fiery mountain.[break][break]

“Hm?” she asked her Jumpluff as she raised a fungus to her nose, responding to its affectionate trill, “.. did you make yourself a new friend? If it sticks around for a while, we can catch it, my blossom- of course.”[break][break]

The cottonweed pokemon always wanted to be a mother. Smiling at the two’s shine to one another, and the looks she had received from the creature she had perceived to be wild, she continued on the path.. keeping an eye out for the rumored golden light.[break][break]

But all that awaited her was a rapid appearance of another human- a girl. Desiree had flinched when she had come into view, but breathed a sigh of relief shortly thereafter.[break][break]

“Kalosienne?” she responded in her mother tongue, Kalosian. It was quite the surprise to run into another fluent in her first language- now that she had been here for what felt like so long, it felt different speaking like she did back home. It felt more.. intimate, as she only spoke it these days with her boyfriend.[break][break]

“You aren’t inconveniencing me at all, don’t worry about that kind of thing,” she smiled, continuing to speak in their shared tongue, “.. so this one is yours? I was about to take it home with me!”[break][break]

Twirling her hair as two curious Floette peered out from the strands, tucked away in their own pink wonderland, her eyes darted around the forest as she spoke. From the neck down, she appeared graceful in her mannerisms as ever- but from the neck up, she appeared somewhat anxious.[break][break]

“You haven’t seen a glowing golden light around here, have you? A territorial forest dweller?"

In her embarrassment, Blossom hadn't taken the time to get the proper measure of this stranger; but as Cyprès returned to her side, subdued, she set her Turtwig back down and breathed easier. The woman had a gentle presence, and she also appreciated nature if the mushroom specimens she was gathering were any indication. She was even accompanied by a Jumpluff, so maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.

Then came the word Kalosienne and the ranger's expectations were far exceeded, no, they changed entirely. Her lips parted to form a perfectly round "O" before turning upwards in an open-mouthed smile, surprise giving way to delight that lit her whole face up. Oh, she could've kissed her troublesome Hoppip right now! For his part, he'd abandoned any pretense of shame and looked thoroughly pleased with himself, which his Trainer didn't have the heart to scold him for.

"Yes," Blossom nodded eagerly, though the look on her own face was confirmation enough, "I'm from Dendemille Town up in the mountains, oh, but you probably haven't heard of it. It's close to the Frost Cavern, east of Snowbelle, and just lovely. Where are you from?"

At the reassurance she said simply, "Thank you, madame." The blush on her cheeks lingered, yet in spite of it her manner was much more at ease. It was difficult to carry herself with anything but lightness while speaking Kalosian in the middle of Hoenn, to be honest. It had the wonderful effect of instantly making her feel close to the unfamiliar woman.

"He is mine indeed, the little troublemaker," she answered, leveling a look at said troublemaker that was more fond than anything. "Do you understand now why you mustn't stray from me?"

Cyprès thrilled in soft agreement and she turned back to her fellow Trainer. Oh, those two Floette looked so sweet... While her four other Pokémon arrived, Blossom waved at the pair with a gentle smile. She might have commented on their lovely hiding place if not for the woman's anxiety.

"I have not seen anything like that myself, no... but I've heard of such beings in the area." She replied, anxiety of her own suddenly rearing its head. The forest was so peaceful that it just hadn't occurred to her that she might run into these creatures herself — until now, that is. "Are you here to look into these reports then, madame?"

Dendemille Town was quite the lovely place; she wouldn’t have guessed anyone in Hoenn would be from there, however. It was just so small, or at least, it felt that way when she looked back at it in her pinkened memories.[break][break]

”Some of my people are from Dendemille, actually- my Grandmother and a few of my cousins,” she smiled, taken aback as she had not thought of it for quite some time, ”.. it is so lovely there. I’m from the heart of Lumiose City, my old apartment was only a few blocks away from the Prism Tower.”[break][break]

She giggled at the approach and the gentle chastising of the curious little Hoppip simultaneously. Such cuteness was able to subside any unease that came with the thoughts of her old home- a penthouse, a luxurious life tampered by a rotten apple tree. One that she had come from, and though her apple had fallen far from the tree, it was not spared by its toxic roots that sought to shred its own boons.[break][break]

But the runaway apple had ripped the toxic tree from the ground in the end- leaving scars of cuts in the skin covered only by tattoo lace.[break][break]

”Hoenn is different from both Dendemille and Lumiose in its own unique way,” she opened folds of her hair to release the Floette twins, having noticed the girl’s gaze falter to them, ”.. but love comes the same with our Kalosian efforts, I’m sure you’ve figured that out by now.”[break][break]

Holding a hand out to express comfort around the brunette’s cute little sprouts, inviting them to brush if they were content to do so, the Floette twins took a liking to the stranger. They floated around her head and looked in awe and delight, spinning their flowers as if to ask for pets on their tiny foreheads. Such forest blessings further pushed away anxiety, for better or for worse.[break][break]

”I am, but I haven’t seen anything like it in person, either. Only reports,” she nodded, giving the mushroom basket to the Jumpluff to hold in its feet, ”.. there have been sightings of one here, but I’m unsure of the species. I was hoping to be able to capture it after seeing its potential in battle. They say they are immensely powerful and territorial, but I want to see if they are capable of loving, too.”[break][break]

Some said that they were spirits, but she didn’t want to believe it; she wanted to instead believe it to be some kind of anomaly, one that could give her an edge in any battles to come against those incapable of loving.[break][break]

”Maybe you could help me? If you’re not busy with your own thing, of course.”

At the reveal that the other woman had not only heard of her tiny northern town but actually had family there, Blossom couldn't help herself: She gasped aloud, hands flying up to her face while her mouth hung open and her eyes sparkled, surprise and delight in equal measure warming her chest right up. It took a few moments for the ranger to gather her wits about her again, though even once she did the delight remained, and she laughed as she lowered her hands.

"Oh, that's just so wonderful!" Blossom exclaimed, though this time too her expression said as much. "Dendemille Town truly is lovely. I miss it every day, to be honest." She added, with a wistful sigh.

Yet her homesickness paled before the sheer joy of these coincidences, and she went on with renewed cheer: "Although... It does make me wonder that our paths never crossed in such a small town, or even in Lumiose, only to cross all the way out in Hoenn instead... Could this be divine providence?" She laughed again, as giddy as a young girl. "I'm kidding, but it really is remarkable, don't you think?"

She was more serious about it than not, in truth, but to say such a thing earnestly might seem too bold. The last thing she wanted was to put the best person she'd met in Hoenn — no offense to the locals — off. Thankfully the woman remained as kind as before, releasing her Floette at a mere glance from Blossom, who in turn was all too happy to pat their little foreheads. Her own Pokémon welcomed the pair too, the Cottonee in particular taking to the air to meet them, while Darjeeling ambled over to sniff the other Trainer.

"Indeed it does," Blossom agreed in the meanwhile, her glee shifting into something more subdued and gentle, though the warmth of it remained. "It was for love that I moved here, love for the world and compassion for the people who are suffering. This isn't to say I'm some savior, far from it, but if I can make at least a small difference..."

She trailed off as the subject turned to battles and power, nodding along politely. Her expression became serious for the first time, and she hesitated for a moment. Yet, even now, love was the center of everything.

"I'm sure they are," she said, her voice no less certain for its quietness. "Every living creature has the capacity for love, I would say, though some turn away from it. I have never liked battle, but in such troubled times... We do what we must." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, while the Deerling returned to her side without needing to be called. "Which is to say, it would be an honor to help you, madame —"

Realization set in and her earnest demeanor gave way to another laugh, this one softer than before, more bashful. "Oh! Look at us, talking like old friends without exchanging names..." She held out a hand. "I'm Blossom Delier, and the pleasure is all mine."
